MAKING AN INTERNET CONNECTION UNDER WINDOWS XP

Simply follow the following steps to create an internet connection in windows xp :-
first open network connection wizard .To use it start > control panel >network connections.
Then follow the follwing steps :-

Step 1> Under network tasks click create a new connection then click next .

Step 2>To choose kind of connection just click connect to the internet then click next.

Step 3>If u already have an account the click set up my connection manually then click next .

              If u are using a dil up modem then click on using dial up modem click next and follow instructions.
              For using DSL you must provide the required username and password.

CONFIGURING WINDOWS

Now when u have choosen the proper ISP for u its time to configure your pc so that u can access internet from it.You will have to configure your modem first.Now a days the modems comes with an installation disk u just have to install it and the plug and play feature enables u to set it ready to use.Now you will have to configure the accessing IP adresses.You may contact your service provider for this reason.

FIGURING OUT CONFIGURATION :-
Step 1 > right click on my network places then click on properties. It opens the network connection window.

Step 2>right click on lan & choose properties .which takes you to LAN properties which gives u detailed info about your modem.

Step 3>double clik on the line which says internet protocol(tcp/ip).fill them with the adresses provided by ur ISP.
Step 4> nowadays u can select the automatically assign ip option which simply takes the ip automatically.

CHOOSING AN ISP

The most important task for u when choosing an ISP is to choose a connection which provides speedy connection in a cost effective manner.However this may vary depending on the types of users.But generally one should keep in mind the follwing factors while choosing an ISP :-

1>Phone Number :- U have to dial a connection while connecting to internet then u should keep in mind that if this number is not a local number then u will have give high cost for your connection.

2>Cost :- Different ISP provide different plans . Some plans are based on time others are based on data transfer range.U have to choose the appropriate one for yourself.

3>Mailboxes :-ISP generally provide mailboxes for free keep an eye on that.

4>Softwares :- ISP often provides software to connect to internet.

5>Technical support:- This is the most important thing.Whenever technical faults occur your ISP is gonna fix that.

6>Speed and Bandwidth :-This shows how manny channels your ISP can support simultaneously at any single time.

7>Latency:- Its the time needed to reach a packet from one node to the other in your network.
